Wellness
An integral part of our
Faculty Wellness program is GenXe3
Generation FIT students can easily be trained
to mentor their teachers. This mentoring includes the
following :
Benefits
- Supporting teacher use of dance mat
video games
and FootGaming
with
casual games as a choice instead of snacking or smoking
during break, planning or lunch time
- Students learn how to support
their teacher-mentees’ goals
- Goals may include: added
at-school exercise opportunities to increase fun, fitness
,weight loss, energy and productivity
- If a teacher is trying to lose
weight the student mentors can show how to arrange the
game so you play until you burn your goal-number of
calories
- If a teacher is trying to quit
or reduce smoking, the student will teach how to use the
active video games as a distraction and choice at times
when a cigarette might be the existing
habit
Outcomes
- Sstudents will clamor to
be mentors to their teachers when their favorite exergame is
part of the program
- For about $500 a school can
provide a motivation, team-building and wellness option
for hard-working faculty
- Students, especially those
most at-risk for negative behaviors, choices or health
risks, become empowered resources for their
school
- Reverse mentoring has social,
leadership and academic benefits beyond the obvious
fitness outcomes
